Magnet Programs

Marine Science

South Broward High School’s Marine Magnet Program gives students a special learning experience focused on the ocean and marine life. The program helps students explore marine biology, ocean science, the environment, and how to protect our oceans. Learning happens through exciting hands-on activities, trips to Florida’s coast, and working with real marine science groups. Students take challenging classes and learn by doing, which helps them get ready for college and jobs in marine and environmental science. This program also teaches students to care about the planet and become leaders in protecting the ocean and its wildlife.

Integrated Career Academic Networks (iCAN)

The Integrated Career Academic Networks (iCAN) magnet program at South Broward High School is a new and exciting way to learn. This program gives all students the chance to choose a career path that matches their interests and future goals. Students can pick from academies in Education, Business, Computer Science & Engineering, Health Sciences, or Arts & Entertainment. In iCAN, students learn through hands-on projects and a mix of online and in-person lessons. They build important skills they’ll need in the workplace and in life. The program also connects students with real professionals and college teachers who help guide them. At South Broward, we believe every student can succeed, and iCAN helps prepare them to become future leaders, creators, and problem-solvers.

Cambridge AICE Advanced Academics

The Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) Diploma is a rigorous, fast‑paced academic program developed by Cambridge International Examinations, part of the University of Cambridge in England. Designed with a global perspective, AICE offers a flexible and internationally recognized course pathway taught in more than 160 countries. For over 170 years, the University of Cambridge has helped shape educational standards around the world, and AICE students are part of that shared international academic community.

At South Broward High School, we have offered AICE courses for nearly a decade, providing students with a globally focused education that reaches far beyond the classroom. Through partnerships with the University of Cambridge, the University of Florida, Education First (EF), and other international organizations, students connect with universities, educators, and peers across multiple continents. AICE students are evaluated using international standards and measure their academic performance against students worldwide, building the skills and mindset needed for college, careers, and an interconnected world. Global learning is not just a concept in our program, but a lived experience. Each year, students take part in international educational tours that allow them to engage directly with history, culture, language, and global issues. To date, our students have traveled to Europe, South America, Central America, and are planning to visit Asia in the near future!
